About

I am a PhD student in the Department of Government at Harvard University, having studied previously at the University of Oxford (Balliol College and Nuffield College).

My research focuses on legislative politics in advanced democracies including cases such as the United States, Japan, and various European legislatures. I am especially interested in synthesising theoretical perspectives from disparate cases to better understand how institutional and political reforms affect member behaviour. To examine these questions, I apply and develop methodological tools from areas such as ideal point estimation and "text-as-data". My research on these topics and others has been published in Comparative Political Studies, Political Analysis, and Parliamentary Affairs.

I can be contacted at goplerud@g.harvard.edu; a CV can be found here.
